Track & Field – A Great Choice
The most ancient and elemental sport of all,
track & field is based on the three basic forms of human
movement – running, jumping and throwing. Within the sport, there is
an event for everyone, regardless of race, gender, size, shape or ability. Just as important, the sport is inexpensive and accessible to everyone – all you need is a pair of shoes. A race, a throwing competition or a jumping contest can happen anywhere!

Something for Everyone!
SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE! Away from the competitive arena, the activities of track & field also provide the foundations of basic fitness. If kids engage in running, jumping and throwing, fitness will follow. Engaging in these activities improves children’s health and self-esteem. And done with friends, the movements are fun!

From Humble Beginnings
Get started in track & field and who knows where it can take you. Deena Kastor tells the story of her father enrolling her in their local track club when she was a young girl for only one reason: to help overcome her painful shyness. A slight, very shy youth, Deena had never participated in sports. She grew to love track & field and in 2004 became the first American woman in 30 years to win an Olympic medal in the marathon.

Did You Know?
On the highest level, track & field athletes become international stars. But many of today’s top athletes outside of track & field also have a track background. Football players like Washington’s Robert Griffin III, Super Bowl champion Jacoby Jones, and past legends like Willie Gault, Jim Brown and Herschel Walker all were accomplished track stars, winning medals, NCAA titles and setting records. Former 49er Michael Carter was 3-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champion who won Olympic medal in the shot put (1984), then won his first Super Bowl ring a few months later. His daughter, Michelle is even a national record holder in the women’s shot put!
